about

Recorded in London in January 2017, 'Diaspora' brings together Australian clarinettist Michael McQuaid with London-based US pianist Andrew Oliver and British drummer Nicholas D. Ball.

An international star (and acknowledged expert) in the field of classic jazz, Michael has travelled the world as a multi-instrumentalist and bandleader. 'Diaspora' provides a chance to hear him stretch out on his first instrument: the clarinet.

Combining two of Michael's original tunes ('Diaspora' and 'Black Spur') with a collection of classic jazz standards and obscurities, the album is notable for Michael's streamlined yet imaginative arrangements. The musicians each channel their key influences from the 1920s and 30s, all the while maintaining their own artistic voices and a joyful, relaxed inventiveness.

With an intimate yet crystal-clear studio sound, 'Diaspora' is sure to spread joy to listeners the world over!
